History

It has been rightly said by famous personality Hegel that “History makes man wise”. This is absolutely applicable on the history of well-established Government College of western Uttar Pradesh “ Shahid Mangal Pandey Government Girls P.G. College, Madhavpuram, Meerut.” It has been named after the name of “ Shahid Mangal Pandey” the famous freedom fighter and initiator of first war of independence of 1857 in Meerut.
This college was established in the year 1999 with UG in 8 subjects by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to give quality education to this area of freedom struggle and rich cultural heritage. Here we cannot forget the name of the then and present Meerut City MLA Dr. Laxmikant Vajpayee from whose efforts and MLA fund this college could take place on 10 September 1999 by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. In Year 2006-07 the B.Ed. course was also started for women education . In Year 2006 and 2008, the college was upgraded to PG Level in 8 subjects. In year 2013 the college become recognised Research Centre in Humanities and now our research scholars are having JRF grant from the UGC.
In Year 2014 P.G. in Physical Education, Science and Commerce was started as well as U.G. in Home Science was also started. The college is also awarded “B” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. We have a wealth of about 2000 students on rolls. This magnanimous achievement is the result of cumulative factors comprising the infrastructure, teaching pedagogy, administrative, discipline, pertinacious spirit of the faculty members for the course of education and the indefatigable efforts of its staff members who are 47 in numbers now.
The founder Principal of the college was Dr. R.N. Singh in the year 2000. The next Principal Dr. Shashi Khanna stayed in the college for June 2000 to June 2001. In June 2001 Dr. V.K. Manchanda succeeded to the chair. He was succeeded by Shri C.S. Khanna in July 2003. He was succeeded by Dr. Sandhya Rani,who served from July 2004 to Feb.2009. Dr. Urmila Singh joined as Principal in Feb.2009 and worked here till August 2013 when she was succeeded by Dr. Amrita Kulshreshtha. After her Dr. Rajiv Pandey (Sep. 2015 to March 2016) was here as an officiating Principal. By than professor (Dr.) Ashwani Kumar Goyal completed his tenure of one year (12th March 2016 to 31st March 2017). Dr. Dinesh Chand took over the charge as an officiating principal from (31st March 2017 to 19th April 2017). Dr. Divya Nath joined the college on 19th April 2017 and is adding innovative chapters everyday to make the history of the college proud and assure to present a beautiful future.
